Science Labs-in-a-Box was started several years ago byt two men with a vision. Larry Smith and Mike Bolinsky originally started the firm out of Dallas, TX. Mike Bolinsky, alias Mr. B, is a certified science teacher, research chemist (he invented the best agar around), pyrochemist (they use his flashpaper on TV and live stage performances), tropical botanist (his product dramatically lengthens the life of florist shop flowers) and he invented a way to lengthen the shelf-life of fruits. In 1995, he started teaching science classes to 15 home school children. Demand for his stimulating labs spread quickly by word of mouth. Soon, he was wanted in more places than he could possibly attend. He reacted by hiring teachers to use his materials to teach more students. Eventually, he and his staff were teaching K through Chemistry science labs to over 500 home school students in the Arlington, Fort Worth, Waco, Richardson, Cedar Hill, Carrolton, and Dallas areas. Now even more parents want his unique hands-on science lab courses. Most families can not afford complete Science labs in their homes. Mike has such a heart for home school families that he wanted to "box up his classes" in an affordable manner and send them to families who don't live in Dallas. That's where Mr. Larry Smith came in. His organizational skills and Labs-in-a-Box concepts resulted in a great final product that was both affordable to homeschoolers and enabled these homeschoolers to have virtually a completely equipped science lab in their home without purchasing all the expensive equipment. All the materials you will need for eight labs come complete in one box. Students discover answers for themselves--so they will enjoy and remember. It's all hand's on. In addition to the equipment and supplies, you receive student handouts, and teacher's manuals designed for a non-scientist teacher. Mike and Larry are no longer with the company and it has gone through some minor changes throughout the years. We still consult with the founders from time to time so they are still somewhat involved in the firm. The firm has moved to Kyle, TX back in 2003. For those of you unfamiliar with the area, that is very near Austin, TX. We have added some improvements to the courses as well. In the beginning, only the deluxe versions of the courses were available. We found that these were too expensive for many homeschooling parents so we have introduced two new versions of our products so that all may have the opportunity to do these lab courses. We have also, over the years, replaced some labs with others for various reasons, improved and bound the teachers manuals and student workbooks and reduced pricing even on the original deluxe labs through efficiencies in production and sourcing. We hope that the products we now have will be both fun and educational. Please feel free to contact us at any time regarding questions or potential improvements to our products. Thanks for reviewing our products and we hope you find something to meet your needs here.
